India Announces Zoo Database Plans

Close on the heels of news about Indonesia bringing in a standardisation process for its zoos, India announces it is building a database for all its zoo animals. The Central Zoo Authority has said it will begin the process across the country’s 166 zoos in April.

Holding comprehensive data about individual zoo animals is an essential requirement for all facilities that house captive wild animals. It enables zoos to better understand their animals as individuals, and ensures decisions can be made about their ongoing care and welfare at all times.
