Animal Welfare Legislation and Research

There is a growing societal understanding of the importance of respect and protection for animals as an indicator of a country’s ethical and moral standard. Despite this, many countries still lack basic legislation that reflects the humane treatment of animals, or it is out-dated and inadequate when it comes to wild animals in captivity.

Wild Welfare works with government and zoo officials, to advise on and help develop legislation that can fully supports practices that lead to long-term improvements in animal welfare across a country.

Wild Welfare’s research programmes are based around supporting best practices in animal care and management. We review current animal management practices that affect the welfare of wild animals in captivity and assess existing global protection measures that impact how animals are perceived, traded and managed across the world.
