One of our key activities is to provide a welfare assessment service, at the collection, enclosure and individual species level. We’ve created detailed and practical welfare assessment tools that help identify specific welfare concerns. With the zoos permission this assessment details all aspects of a zoo’s management and resource limitations that can lead to poor animal welfare in captivity.
We have now used this assessment tool in a number of facilities, providing detailed reports to the relevant zoos, regional zoo associations and national stakeholders. These assessments form the basis of a partnership aimed at making practical long-term improvements that support ongoing positive animal welfare.
