We are looking to hire a Communications Manager. This is a fantastic opportunity to join our small, dedicated team and help grow our animal welfare organisation. 

Job Title: Communications Manager

Location: Remote

Position: Part-time, permanent (30 hours per week).

Reporting To: UK Director

Salary: £30,000 – £32,000 per year pro rata

Job Description:

The Communications Manager is responsible to the Director and will also work closely with the fundraising and animal welfare managers in a small, dynamic team.

Wild Welfare is a global organisation committed to improving animal welfare for captive wild animals. We work together with animal welfare organisations and captive wildlife facilities, including zoos, aquariums, and sanctuaries, to achieve long-term and sustainable solutions to the most critical issues facing wild animals in captivity. Founded in 2012, Wild Welfare is a globally active, UK-registered charity. We are the first captive wild animal charity that is solely focused on improving welfare standards by uniting animal welfare NGOs and captive wildlife facilities around the world. We work with all those in the animal welfare and captive wildlife fields who are committed to making positive welfare changes.

We looking for a self-motivated, creative, and passionate individual to take the lead in managing our communications activities and digital projects and drive forward the charity’s communications as it continues to grow its reach around the world. The role involves disseminating key information about our global animal welfare projects to our supporter networks and the wider public, as well as to our internal charity partners, driving engagement and awareness of Wild Welfare’s mission and programmes.

Wild Welfare offers flexible working patterns and a generous annual leave of 24 days (pro rata) plus Bank Holidays.

Main Duties

You will lead, develop, and deliver all internal and external communications, including report writing, supporter newsletters and press releases. You will be responsible for all social media and website content, as well as the use and creation of imagery and video content. You will be required to support Wild Welfare’s fundraising and educational activities and effectively represent Wild Welfare’s vision and mission, growing our reach, reputation, and influence across the globe.

Main Responsibilities

  • Development and implementation of an annual communications strategy.
  • Manage Wild Welfare’s social media channels, website, and PR.
  • Creation and dissemination of press releases to key UK and international media outlets.
  • To support the development and dissemination of welfare resources.
  • Creation of graphics for social media channels and charity’s animal welfare presentations.
  • Support the fundraising manager in the implementation of appeals, campaigns and marketing activities and subsequent monitoring of their effectiveness.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Answering public queries and responses on behalf of Wild Welfare.
  • Attend training courses, exhibitions & conferences as and when required.
  • Represent Wild Welfare at public events or relevant forums.
  • Collaborate with team members on campaigns and initiatives.
  • To help manage Wild Welfare’s UK and overseas charity ambassadors and volunteers when required.

Key Skills (Essential)

  • Proven competency in the creation of newsletters, press releases and campaigns utilising platforms including but not limited to Mailchimp and Canva.
  • Proven competency in social media management across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn.
  • Proven experience in website development and management using WordPress.
  • Comprehensive understanding of publishing/creative software, video editing, databases, and website platforms.
  • Experience of growing an online presence and generating positive engagement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proven experience in developing communication resources.
  • Capable of multi-tasking and engaging with a wide variety of people.
  • Self-motivated and independent with ability to work under difficult conditions.

Key Skills (Desirable)

  • Experience in fundraising and donor management.
  • A university degree in journalism, communications or marketing or relevant experience.
  • Understanding of animal welfare and the zoo, aquariums, and sanctuary communities.
  • Confident in explaining and disseminating information relating to animal welfare.
  • Ability to process scientific papers or project reports into accessible publications.
