Wild Welfare, an international charity working to improve the welfare of animals in captivity around the world, is thrilled to welcome Dr. Jo Judge onto the Board of Trustees. With many years of knowledge and experience in the field, Jo will further enhance Wild Welfare’s team of high-profile trustees and staff members.

Jo Judge, Chief Executive of the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA), currently works with and coordinates over 130 member zoos and aquariums. Renowned for her exceptional contributions to wildlife conservation and animal welfare, she actively supports efforts to establish stringent standards of excellence in conservation, education, animal welfare, and research. Jo’s extensive experience has equipped her with the skills to navigate complex partnerships and drive collective action towards common goals. Her ability to provide a unified voice for the sector will be invaluable in helping to advance Wild Welfare’s mission.

As an experienced scientific research professional, having undertaken an MRes in Ecology and Environmental Management and a PhD in Wildlife Disease Ecology, Jo has a deep working knowledge of the varied challenges that modern zoos and aquariums face when addressing improvements in care and welfare for animals.

In addition to conservation work undertaken at BIAZA and the National Biodiversity Network, Jo also oversees the co-chair position of the IUCN NCUK Species Survival Working Group and contributes to both the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) and World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) National Association Committees.

“We are delighted to welcome Jo as a Trustee at Wild Welfare” said David Jones, Chair of the Board at Wild Welfare. “Jo’s leadership, scientific expertise, and interest in our animal welfare work, makes her a valuable new member of our team. We believe that Jo’s input will provide great benefits to our work in improving the lives of animals in captivity around the globe.”

Jo said she was delighted to be a member of Wild Welfare’s Board of Trustees, adding, “I am honored to be joining the Board of Trustees at Wild Welfare.
