Ringling Bros Circus To Close
Wild Welfare is thrilled to hear that the Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus will close in May 2017.
The American circus began more than 100 years ago and has a long history of using wild animal acts in its show. It retired its elephant acts in May last year, following pressure from animal welfare groups, sending individuals to its Centre for Elephant Conservation in Florida.
We welcome this decision by Ringling Bros as we do not believe that circus environments can properly provide for the physical or mental welfare needs of wild animals. The remaining wild animals, which include lions, tigers and camels, are reportedly being sent to alternative, suitable homes.
