Care For Us – Hippopotamus

Hippopotamus are large herbivores native to sub-Saharan Africa.

They are classed as a vulnerable species, being at risk from hunting and changes to their habitat.

Hippos live in family groups and spend the majority of their time in the water but will emerge at night to feed, grazing on different species of grass and roaming large distances in search of it..

Despite the large amount of time they spend in the water, hippos cannot swim but instead walk along the bottom of a pool and are able to hold their breath for up to 5 minutes.
