Wild Welfare offers trip of a lifetime

Wild Welfare gives supporters the chance to work with animals in Malaysia

International zoo animal welfare charity, Wild Welfare, has launched a fundraising campaign that offers supporters the chance to win a two-week trip to work with animals in Malaysian zoos.

The campaign ‘Changing Lives For Zoo Animals Around The World’ is raising funds for Wild Welfare’s ongoing work of improving welfare standards for captive wild animals. Every donation made to the campaign automatically enters people into a raffle draw, where they can win an all-expenses-paid volunteer position as a zoo assistant in Malaysia.

Wild Welfare’s director, Georgina Allen, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for one of our supporters to experience first-hand the kind of work we do in zoos around the world improving lives for captive animals.

“They will have the chance to work with Malaysian zookeepers learning about how they keep their animals healthy and give priority to their welfare. This is a brilliant opportunity to learn more about wild animals and experience what it’s like to provide appropriate care and enrichments for animals in captivity – the essentials that help ensure wild animals in zoos have positive welfare.”

Working alongside the team at APE Malaysia for two weeks, one lucky supporter will receive free travel and accommodation and take part in the responsible volunteering opportunity, where they will get to help and support a wide range of fascinating animals. They will learn from zookeepers about how to offer captive animals the best health and welfare, how to build enrichments and develop animal enclosures.

Other prizes on offer in the raffle draw are a stunning leopard drawing by UK wildlife artist Stephen Rew, and a family-of-four VIP pass to Yorkshire Wildlife Park in the UK. There is no minimum donation and every time a supporter donates to the campaign, launched on the crowdfunding site Chuffed, they go into the raffle draw for the three prizes.

With a target of £15,000 for the campaign, Wild Welfare aims to reach more captive wild animals globally and help educate and support more zoos in improving animal welfare within their collections. The campaign runs until the middle of November. Dates for the trip to be arranged between the winner and APE Malaysia directly.
