UK Government votes animals can’t feel pain
There is extensive scientific evidence that most species of animal are sentient individuals with complex emotional capacity. But the UK government has just voted not to include the parts of EU legislation covering an animal’s ability to feel pain and animal sentience, in the European Union Withdrawal Bill.
What will this mean for animal welfare and protection laws post-Brexit, when 80 per cent of the UK’s animal welfare legislation currently comes from the EU?
