Investigation exposes chimpanzee traffickers
A SECRET network of wildlife traffickers selling baby chimpanzees has been exposed by a year-long BBC investigation, spanning half a dozen countries.
Many of these end up in commercial and unregulated zoos, where illegally traded chimpanzees can suffer a lifetime of poor care and solitude.
Chimpanzees are CITES Appendix I species which means they are prohibited from being caught from the wild and traded commercially within CITES ratified countries, yet literally hundreds continue to turn up in unregulated zoos
